Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore is a famous mountain and memorial in the Black Hills near Keystone, South Dakota in the United States. It has the heads of four of the country's presidents carved on it: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The native Dakota peoples call the mountain ‘Six Grandfathers’. The idea of the carving was by Doane Robinson in 1923, and was sculpted by Gutzon Borglum from 1925 to 1941. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Shrine of Democracy’, Mount Rushmore attracts more than two million visitors annually.
